1. Nutrition Education and Training

The Directorate is responsible to provide Education, Training, Advocacy, Library and Information Management through publishing journals and updating the website, Mainstreaming of nutrition expertise in curricula of other sectors e.g. Water and community development and In-service training. The department is divided into three sections:

  • Nutrition Training

This is the section that is responsible for planning, supervising and coordinating all activities in the Centre.

  • Information development and communication

This is the section that is responsible for planning, supervising and coordinating all activities in the Centre.

  • Library development and documentation

This is the section that is responsible for planning, supervising and coordinating all activities in the Centre.

2. Nutrition Policy and Planning

The Directorate is responsible for policy,planning, advocacy and monitoring and evaluation of activities in the Centre. It is comprised of the following sections:

  • Policy analysis and advocacy section

Responsible for drafting and reviewing of policies guidelines

  • Nutrition information section

Responsible for collecting data and developing a nutrition database, and participates or facilitate in national nutrition assessment.

  • Planning, monitoring and evaluation

Responsible for preparing the Centre’s budget, planning of operations, reporting and monitoring of the organization activities.

3. Food Science and Nutrition

The Directorate is in charge of carrying out the studies, tests and research in order to provide information about nutrition.It’s also divided in to three sections

  • Product Development

Adding value to food and developing for specific groups, research and promotion of researches collaborations

  • Nutrition biochemistry section

This is the section that is responsible for the laboratory research or testing for the makeup of food science

  • Food and safety

This section looks at food in terms of how safe it is for consumption or how to make it safe for human consumption

4. Community Health and Nutrition

The Directorate is in charge of nutrition disorders and instituting interventions for these disorders. It has three sections with the roles distributed as follows:

  • Nutrition epidemiology section

In charge in identification of nutrition disorders and diseases

  • Community nutrition section

Institutes interventions to the issues identified by the epidemiologists; and

  • Dietetics section

Examines the non-communicable diseases which arise from overweight and obesity

5. Finance Personnel and Administration

The Directorate is responsible to oversee management of financial affairs, human resources, capital assets and operations of the Centre.

  • Finance section

In charge of effective control and proper maintenance of accounts for inflows and outflows of cash; maintaining timely availability and responsibility of financial information; ensuring effective execution of payments and bank reconciliation.

  • The personnel and administration section

Responsible for Human Resource management including attracting, recruiting and retaining employees; conducting training and development; administering compensation and benefits; performance assessment; promotions and disciplines.

The function includes general administration, management of facilities supervision of clerical staff and support staffs as well as ensuring health and safety of staff.
